Concert Band - Fanfare Band - Brass Band

Anton Weeren Composer Photo

I am Anton Weeren, a Dutch composer.

Composing, arranging, and transcribing music for concert bands, fanfare bands, and brass bands is my biggest passion. The sheet music of these works is published under my own label, Dutch Wind Music Publications.

On this website, you can view, listen to, read about, order, or rent my music. In addition, I create original custom compositions and arrangements on commission in many styles and various instrumentations. My compositions are always tailored to the level, tast and preferences of the musicians.

Featured in Klankbord (VLAMO)

Klankbord FeatureIn the most recent issue of Klankbord, the magazine of VLAMO, both an arrangement and a composition of mine were featured in the “Nieuwe Oogst” (New Harvest) section.

The publication includes my arrangement of Klezz of ’99 by David Kweksilber and the composition Son of the Sun, written for concert band and fanfare orchestra. Two very different works, presented side by side within this section in a way that suits their individual character.

Klankbord is a well-produced and content-rich magazine, covering a wide range of topics related to wind music in Belgium — from repertoire and education to policy, community life and artistic development. The magazine clearly reflects how vibrant and diverse this sector is. For musicians, conductors and board members in the Netherlands, Klankbord is also a valuable source of inspiration and information, as many of the themes discussed are widely recognisable and cross-border in nature.

Seeing my work presented in this context is a meaningful form of visibility within the broader network of Flemish and Belgian wind music.

Klankbord listMy music is available through Molenaar Edition. In this context, I would like to thank Henk Ummels for bringing my work to the attention of VLAMO. I would also like to express my appreciation to Dirk Verholle, who, as an ambassador of Belgian wind music, continues to work tirelessly for the sector and for initiatives such as Klankbord.

Six Fanfares for the Royal Netherlands Navy

In 2022, I had the privilege of being commissioned by the talented Trumpet Team of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam to write a series of fanfares for their six ceremonial herald trumpets, a truly unique ensemble used in official military ceremonies.

What began as twelve short fanfares and intradas, each reflecting the grandeur, discipline and maritime spirit of the Royal Netherlands Navy, has now grown into something new. I have arranged and expanded six of these original works into full concert fanfares for fanfare orchestra, forming a vibrant suite titled Six Fanfares for the Royal Netherlands Navy, with a total playing time of about thirteen minutes.

Each movement tells its own story: Royal Honour, Naval Guns Loaded, Captain’s Dinner, Four Bells Two O’Clock, The Brave Frogmen, and The Seven Provinces. Together they pay tribute to the Navy’s rich traditions. From the solemn dignity of official ceremonies to life aboard ship, from the camaraderie among sailors to the fearless dedication of the Navy’s elite divers.

As a Dutch composer, it has been a joy to bring this music to life, drawing inspiration from a country that has been inseparably connected to the sea for centuries. This suite is both a salute to the musicians who brought it to life and a musical celebration of the enduring spirit of the Royal Netherlands Navy – proud, precise, and deeply connected to the sea, as the Netherlands itself has always been.

Six Fanfares for the Royal Netherlands Navy will soon be available for purchase via this website and through Molenaar Edition.

A Quick Update from My Writing Desk

Cinderella

It’s been a busy and inspiring time lately! I recently had the pleasure of writing two new arrangements on commission for the Royal Military Band “Johan Willem Friso”: Cinderella by Eric Coates and The iPhone Variations by Christiaan Wøn. Both are wonderful and quite challenging pieces, not only for the players but also to arrange for concert band. But that’s exactly what makes projects like these so rewarding.

I’ve also been working on several arrangements for Heritage Sinfonietta and for the “Telkens Weer Ruud Bos” Foundation, which have been great opportunities to explore different sounds and orchestral colors.

Right now, I’m busy finishing a number of new compositions for Fanfare Orchestra and Concert Band. These will be available from 2026 on this website and through Molenaar Edition for hire or purchase. And in 2027, my arrangement of Cinderella will also be released in versions for both concert band and fanfare orchestra.

Lots of exciting music ahead — stay tuned!

Recording Day with Youth Orchestra Crescendo Sliedrecht – What a Joy!

Yesterday, I had the honor of spending a fantastic afternoon with the youth orchestra of Music Association Crescendo from Sliedrecht. Under the energetic and inspiring leadership of Paul Langerman, around 40 young musicians performed twelve short pieces from my books First Music Fun 1, 2 and 3. The goal of the day was to record promotional material – both video and audio – to help bring these three books to the attention of other youth orchestras, student ensembles, and beginner groups.

First Music Fun 1, 2 and 3 are educational music books, each containing 12 accessible and enjoyable pieces that gradually increase in difficulty. They are specially written for beginner musicians and are designed to introduce ensemble playing in a fun and approachable way. The music is arranged in three parts with optional percussion, making it flexible and suitable for all kinds of instrumental combinations. Additionally, every piece has strong educational value, covering a variety of time signatures, styles, articulations, dynamics, and rhythmic patterns.

The enthusiasm with which the students played was truly contagious. They worked with great focus, yet there was so much joy in the room. It was wonderful to see how these young musicians created such beautiful results together – all guided by a fantastic conductor.

The filming was professionally done by Ad Russ, audio recordings were made by Marc Busscher, and Peter Bongaerts captured the day in a beautiful photo series. I’m very much looking forward to the final result of all this work. The promotional film will be available in early September via this website and through Molenaar Edition, where the books can be ordered.
