I am Anton Weeren, a Dutch composer.

Composing, arranging, and transcribing music for concert bands, fanfare bands, and brass bands is my biggest passion. The sheet music of these works is published under my own label, Dutch Wind Music Publications.

On this website, you can view, listen to, read about, order, or rent my music. In addition, I create original custom compositions and arrangements on commission in many styles and various instrumentations. My compositions are always tailored to the level, tast and preferences of the musicians.

Recording Day with Youth Orchestra Crescendo Sliedrecht – What a Joy!

Yesterday, I had the honor of spending a fantastic afternoon with the youth orchestra of Music Association Crescendo from Sliedrecht. Under the energetic and inspiring leadership of Paul Langerman, around 40 young musicians performed twelve short pieces from my books First Music Fun 1, 2 and 3. The goal of the day was to record promotional material – both video and audio – to help bring these three books to the attention of other youth orchestras, student ensembles, and beginner groups.

First Music Fun 1, 2 and 3 are educational music books, each containing 12 accessible and enjoyable pieces that gradually increase in difficulty. They are specially written for beginner musicians and are designed to introduce ensemble playing in a fun and approachable way. The music is arranged in three parts with optional percussion, making it flexible and suitable for all kinds of instrumental combinations. Additionally, every piece has strong educational value, covering a variety of time signatures, styles, articulations, dynamics, and rhythmic patterns.

The enthusiasm with which the students played was truly contagious. They worked with great focus, yet there was so much joy in the room. It was wonderful to see how these young musicians created such beautiful results together – all guided by a fantastic conductor.

The filming was professionally done by Ad Russ, audio recordings were made by Marc Busscher, and Peter Bongaerts captured the day in a beautiful photo series. I’m very much looking forward to the final result of all this work. The promotional film will be available in early September via this website and through Molenaar Edition, where the books can be ordered.

New Trombone Concertino – Premiere May 24, 2025

This week, I had the chance to listen to the recording of the first rehearsal of my brand-new Concertino for Trombone and Fanfare Orchestra, written for the Fanfare Orchestra of the Royal Dutch Marechaussee and their brilliant principal trombonist, Paul Langerman.

Although I couldn’t be there in person, listening to the recording of the first rehearsal was still a truly special experience. It’s a challenging piece, but the dedication, focus, and musicianship of the orchestra under conductor Ido Gerard Kempenaar, combined with Paul’s powerful and expressive playing, truly moved me. They are working with great intensity and passion to prepare the piece for its premiere, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Papa Paul Langerman

The idea for this work began at the end of 2024, when Peter Kleine Schaars (their former conductor) asked me to write a solo piece for trombone. After composing my Concerto for Trumpet in 2022, I had been hoping for the opportunity to spotlight the trombone. The timeframe was tight, but in just six weeks, I managed to complete this concertino — my very first for trombone.

The result is a 11–12 minute work, structured in four seamlessly connected sections. It opens with a bold introduction that gives the soloist the space to explore and shine, ending in a short cadenza. What follows are three contrasting parts played attacca. The piece doesn’t tell a specific story — instead, I focused on writing something playful and technically demanding for both the soloist and the ensemble. And in doing so, something unexpected happened: without trying to, my own voice, emotions, and musical identity found their way into the score. It’s a piece that feels deeply personal. Paul described the piece as “an amazing composition — a hell of a job, but every bit of effort worthwhile.”

The official premiere will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 20:00 in the Brikke Oave Cultural Centre & Grand Café, Lindeplein 7, Brunssum.

For all trombone players and fans: the piece will be published in January 2027, both in its full version with fanfare orchestra and an edition with piano reduction, making it accessible for solo performance without ensemble. Until then, I hope you’ll enjoy the upcoming performance by Paul Langerman with the Fanfare Orchestra of the Royal Dutch Marechaussee as much as I enjoyed writing this piece for them.

Celebrating the Timeless Music of Ruud Bos for Efteling

Villa Volta EftelingMusic has a magical ability to transport us into another world, and when it comes to the enchanting Efteling theme park, the compositions of Ruud Bos are undeniably iconic. Over the years, his music has shaped the atmosphere of various Efteling attractions, and two of his masterpieces, Fata Morgana and Villa Volta, stand out as some of the most memorable.

20 years ago, I reached out to Ruud Bos with a proposal: to create arrangements of his music for wind ensembles and fanfare orchestras. I was thrilled to receive his permission, and with that, I was able to craft new versions of these two compositions for wind bands. With the support of Molenaar Edition, a renowned music publishing company, these arrangements were published, bringing Ruud Bos’s music to a wider audience and allowing musicians to bring his music to life in new ways.

Last year, I received an unexpected call from Ruud Bos’s son, Ruud Jan Bos. He shared with me his plans sinds his father past away to preserve and showcase his father’s musical legacy, in the first place focusing on the Efteling compositions that where arranged for wind orchestras. Ruud Jan also had the idea to re-record these works with the prestigious Marinierskapel of the Royal Netherlands Navy Band.

Fata MorganaThis project was a remarkable opportunity to revise and refine the arrangements I had made years ago. Together with Henk Ummels from Molenaar Edition, we went over the existing versions and made improvements where necessary. Over the past two decades, my experience with wind orchestras has grown, what made it possible to incorporate new insights into these arrangements. Many of the original pieces had been crafted from CD by ear, but now, with access to the original scores, I was able to refine the music and correct any previous inaccuracies. The result is a more polished and most faithful representation of the beautiful works of Ruud Bos.

The final recordings of these arrangements, performed by the Marinierskapel, for this project conducted bij Jos Pommer, have been released, and they are truly spectacular. It’s incredible to see how Ruud Jan’s vision came to life, paying tribute to his father’s legacy with such dedication. I have great respect and am thankful for the hard work and passion that Ruud Jan put into making this project a reality.

The recordings of these timeless arrangements can be listened to through the links below. The beautifully crafted, cinematic music of Ruud Bos is a true masterpiece of Dutch culture, one that we can all be proud of. It continues to captivate and inspire, just as it has for so many years at the Efteling. This music can be purchased through the Molenaar Edition website.

Cirque de Curiosités

In 2023, I was commissioned by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam to compose an accessible piece of music for a small ensemble of wind and percussion players. The ensemble consisted of a wind orchestra without saxophones, trumpets, and trombones.

The result was a work in five interconnected movements about a circus of curiosities: Cirque de Curiosités.

The piece opens with Défilé d’Entrée, a cheerful quick march where something feels off, as if a step is being skipped here and there. This leads into Magicien Ennuyeux, a waltz depicting the dull and clumsy magician performing his tricks. Pierrot Triste captures the melancholy of the sad clown, followed by Acrobates Maladroits, where the awkward acrobats perform clumsy stunts in a very special mambo. Finally, everything culminates in Animaux Incontrôlables, where circus animals wreak havoc, tearing down the tent in a fast-paced, challenging Csárdás

It’s typical circus music with a humorous twist, and the end result was so much fun that I couldn’t resist arranging it for full wind orchestra as well. So, here it is! Watch and listen to Cirque de Curiosités.
