Concert Overture
- Composer: Richard Strauss
- Arranger: Anton Weeren
- Instrumentation: Concert Band
- Duration: Ca. 12.30 min.
- Difficulty: Grade 6
This special Overture in C minor is a relatively unknown early work by Richard Strauss. At the age of 19, Strauss composed this piece, inspired by Beethoven’s “Coriolan Overture.” As a 20-year-old, he carried this work with him as a model composition during his trip to Berlin in the winter of 1883/1884. It’s quite a challenge, but very rewarding to perform this transcription with a concert band. A unique work to sink your teeth into as an advanced musician.
