Six Fanfares for the Royal Netherlands Navy

In 2022, I had the privilege of being commissioned by the talented Trumpet Team of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam to write a series of fanfares for their six ceremonial herald trumpets, a truly unique ensemble used in official military ceremonies. A Quick Update from My Writing Desk

It’s been a busy and inspiring time lately! I recently had the pleasure of writing two new arrangements on commission for the Royal Military Band “Johan Willem Friso”: Cinderella by Eric Coates and The iPhone Variations by Christiaan Wøn. Both are wonderful and quite challenging pieces, not only for the players but also to arrange for concert band. But that’s exactly what makes projects like these so rewarding. Recording Day with Youth Orchestra Crescendo Sliedrecht – What a Joy!

Yesterday, I had the honor of spending a fantastic afternoon with the youth orchestra of Music Association Crescendo from Sliedrecht. Under the energetic and inspiring leadership of Paul Langerman, around 40 young musicians performed twelve short pieces from my books First Music Fun 1, 2 and 3. The goal of the day was to record promotional material – both video and audio – to help bring these three books to the attention of other youth orchestras, student ensembles, and beginner groups. New Trombone Concertino – Premiere May 24, 2025

This week, I had the chance to listen to the recording of the first rehearsal of my brand-new Concertino for Trombone and Fanfare Orchestra, written for the Fanfare Orchestra of the Royal Dutch Marechaussee and their brilliant principal trombonist, Paul Langerman. Cirque de Curiosités

In 2023, I was commissioned by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam to compose an accessible piece of music for a small ensemble of wind and percussion players. The ensemble consisted of a wind orchestra without saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. The result was a work in five interconnected movements about a circus of curiosities: Cirque de Curiosités. Update 2025: In 2020, I launched my label Dutch Wind Music Publications and opened my own digital webshop. It has been a journey full of fun, hard work, and learning to get to this point. In 2022, I composed the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra for Jeroen Schippers, the solo trumpet player of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy. It is a challenging, virtuosic piece for both the soloist and the orchestra, showcasing the typical concerto style. Jeroen premiered the piece in November 2022 with his Marine Band, and since then, he has performed it several times, including the premiere with a fanfare band version for the Gelders Fanfare Orchestra in 2024. Making recordings

In addition to the first orders received last month, we’ve received very positive feedback about our new webshop. Common words mentioned in the responses include: well-organized, neat, easy, simple, clear, and fast. However, there are also areas for improvement. Many people have mentioned that they would like to hear a sound sample before purchasing a new piece of music for their concert band, fanfare band, brass band, or student orchestra. Since we believe that MIDI files do not adequately represent the compositions, we will be recording real orchestral performances. To achieve this, we have created the Dutch Wind Band.
